Thanks a lot, to Bryan, for setting up this show in such a cool space. Any doubts about playing a suburban show were eliminated when we walked into this amazing, decaying theater. It was the perfect setting for a show like this. Julia and Blake kicked off the night in style with a really powerful and upbeat Crippled Insectual set of masked rhythmic noise to set things in motion. Climax Denial was up next, and after a brief, low volume segment, Alex flipped the magic switch and he poured on a rough set of very early-1980's style dark industrial noise. At points it reminded me of great old Lustmord tracks like "Of Bones of Men," or something. Is was up next as a two-part, two-man set. Jacob began their set up on the stage, with an eerie red glow of light emanating from his equipment case. Combined with his dark, rumbling ambient electronics, and with the crowd seated in a mostly dark space, things took on a strange quasi-religious feel. A sub-woofer would have been nice, but no complaints. Bryan then manned his floor level equipment, and he went to town on the second half of their engaging set that seemed part noise show, part performance art, and part lab experiment. We finished things off with a quick, fun set that definitely cleared some of the already-small crowd right out of the theater. Thanks to everyone who stuck around. Thanks to Nicole, Joe, and Tom, from Rococo Records, for the enthusiasm and the support.
