AA Records Compilation review

The AA Records Compilation was reviewed on Brainwashed. While BLOODYMINDED was not specifically mentioned, the following makes for a nice pull quote: "...an excellent snapshot of the current cream of the crop in the American underground. Stick this in a time capsule, give it twenty years and it’ll be the new 'Nuggets'." http://tinyurl.com/zjm4s

All in all, Monday's show was excellent. We were competing with an experimental show at The Empty Bottle and a noise-related metal show at The Note (Unearthly Trance and Facedowninshit). We still managed to get a very respectable crowd at Mr. City, and it was Labor Day, to boot. I Am The Liquor started off the night with some abrasive Kill Rock Stars-type of female-fronted punk. Wilt creeped in as a one-piece, with James delivering an under-the-tongue dose of heavy, dark electronics. Panicsville replaced It's A Trap, and they reminded me of the first half of their recent Empty Bottle show - more on the heavy music concrete side. Nice. We knocked out a fairly quick, bad mood performance, and then the collaborative set took off pretty much right away. More like what I expected Vegas Martyrs to sound like live, a couple of months ago, the crowd was annihilated by an amazing set that combined ritualistic black metal, power-electronics, and maybe even psychedelia. This was one of my favorite "heavy music" sets in ages! The activity moved on to El Taconazo, with a big crowd, and then to the newly remodled Blue Light. Thanks to everyone at Mr. City, including Seth, Jeremy, Alex, and Carrie, for hosting the show. Thanks to Marlene, for videotaping, and for putting up with another show on our anniversary. Thanks to Dominick, Richard, Matt, and Robert, for making Chicago one of their stops. Thanks to all of the other performers. Thanks to everyone who came out to support the show.

I got back to eBay'ing today, and I hope to continue adding numerous pieces each day. I put up a mixture of noise/industrial and black metal... CDs, cassettes, and zines...

I have deleted the From Safety To Where...? weblog due to inactivity. As with my playlist from this past Sunday, all future DJ-related information will be published on this weblog.

Slogun "A Breed Apart"/"The Die Song" CD

BloodLust! New Release - Out Now:

Artist: Slogun
Title: "A Breed Apart"/"The Die Song"
Format: Compact Disc in standard jewel case
Catalog Number: BloodLust! 064 / Circle of Shit 14
Genre: Power-Electronics / Industrial Noise

This is the third release in the "History of Violence" re-issue campaign and it unites two related, key entries in the early Slogun catalog. "A Breed Apart" was originally released on cassette by Slaughter Productions (SPT 86) in 1996, and it was packaged in a beautifully designed, oversized sleeve with a vellum overlay. "The Die Song" tracks are taken from the legendary Slaughter Productions six-cassette box set, "Listen And Die!" (SPT 100), from 1997. This rare, bizarrely packaged collection ("The Italian/American Power Electronics Massacre. 4 Hours And 36 Minutes Of Violent Entertainment"), was limited to 100 copies, and it also featured contributions from Iugula-Thor, Sshe Retina Stimulants, Atrax Morgue, Murder Corporation, Diktat, Discordance, Surgical Stainless Steel, Taint, Deathpile, Skin Crime, and Bacillus. Like the first two re-issue CDs (B!059 "Sacrifice Unto Me" and B!062 "Will To Kill"), the audio for this compiled and re-mastered version was prepared in Lille, France, by Jerome Nougaillon, while John Balistreri's graphic design follows the standard that he created for the ongoing series. True Crime Electronics - FTW.

Track listing:
1. SCHAEFER
2. ANTECEDENT BEHAVIOR
3. WICKED KING WICKER
4. BLIND FURY
5. GLATTMAN
6. VICTIMS...
7. ...IN PAIN
8. DANNY BOY
9. IT'S IN ME
10. RISE FOR ME
11. FOR HEATHER

Brutal Truth show DJ setlist

Here is my playlist from last night’s Brutal Truth / Pig Destroyer / Minsk / Plaguebringer show at the Double Door. It was an intense night, and the packed club witnessed four very heavy-duty sets. Brutal Truth seemed to pick up where they left off all those years ago. I never thought that I would be watching them play again, but they were every bit as powerful as the first time I saw them play with Pungent Stench in 1992 at the Marquee.

01. Sickness “The Need To Cut”
02. Missing Foundation “Burn Trees”
03. Lustmord “Murderwrecker”
04. The Concrete Womb “Crawling”
05. CRASS “Yes Sir, I will.” (excerpt)
06. Brighter Death Now “DeathKomh.”
07. Iugula-Thor “Truescenes” (excerpt)
08. Flux Of Pink Indians “Punk”
09. Swans “Power For Power”
10. Mayhem “Silvester Anfang” / ”Deathcrush”
11. The Sisters Of Mercy “Afterhours”
12. Mammal “Fog III” (excerpt)
13. Cadaver In Drag “Abuse 2” (excerpt)
14. Hair Police “Let’s See Who’s Here And Who’s Not”
15. Sutcliffe Jugend “Pleasure Corpse”
16. Wolf Eyes “Stabbed In The Face” (album version)
17. Slogun “Streetcleaner”
18. Prurient “Silent Mary”
19. Hive Mind “Death Tone” (excerpt)
20. Envenomist “Delving”
21. Deathpile “Abominations Of The Flesh”
22. M.O. “Raising Vapours”
23. Discharge “The Possibility of Life’s Destruction”
24. Eyehategod “Hostility Dose”
25. Winter “Power And Might”
26. Hellhammer “The Third Of The Storms”
27. Christian Death “Romeo’s Distress”
28. Brainbombs “Jack The Ripper Lover”
29. Siouxsie And The Banshees “Night Shift”

FYI: Tracks 12-22 were played between Pig Destroyer and Brutal Truth, with explicit instructions from Kevin Sharp to “make it tense” before Brutal Truth went on… I got some dirty looks from some metal heads… Thanks to Kevin, for asking me to spin. Thanks to the production and sound crew at the Double Door, for making it so easy. Thanks to Velcro Lewis, for sharing the workload with me.
