Malachi Ritscher - RIP
I just found out that yet another friend - Malachi Ritscher - has taken his own life, and in a really horrific, symbolic manner. This is absolutely horrible news. I had known Malachi for about 20 years. We used to live right by each other back in the late-1980s, up near Loyola University. We both went through big break-ups at around the same time, and we sometimes hung out together at Smart Bar, Moody's Pub, and elsewhere, consoling each other. More recently, I could always count on him listing my live shows on his website, "Chicago Rash Audio Potential," and sending me a funny e-mail when he responded to my updates. I last spoke with him at the Daniel Mensche/Olivia Block show. My best wishes go out to his family and his friends.
He clearly planned his end, leaving this mission satement on his website:

It is followed by a detailed obituary:

Thanks to Nicole, Joe, and Tom, from Rococo Records, for letting us be a part of the show, even under such weird, original circumstances. Thanks also, to them, for the huge effort that they put into getting interesting replacement bands, and especially for securing the PA, at such late notice! Thanks to Andy Ortmann and Ehsan, for hosting the show. Thanks to Justin, for bringing and operating the great PA system, which we hope is okay. Thanks to the other bands/artists. Thanks to our friends, for the great support… especially Vanessa and Grey, for bringing the Detroit (and L.A.) backing! Thanks to Marlene, for videotaping.
It was a fast, streamlined set, which ran an agreeable 17.5-minutes. You can hear that complete idiot – constantly – on the crystal-clear MiniDisc recording, so along with his physical interruptions, it is clear that he had something coming to him… although you might not have any clue about what occurred, based on the recording. Thanks to Geoff and Tom, for being voices of reason during the show, and thanks to Geoff and Jason, for being so stern-looking after the show, out on the street.

Bereft
- The Bereft test pressing has been approved, so we seem to be on schedule for the November 13 release date. The test copy sounds excellent, with clear, crisp volume deserving of this release.
- Since I was spinning vinyl, I put the new M.O. single on, as it has been about two weeks since I last listened to it. I am so pleased with this release! I think that it has such a unique sound. This makes me really look forward to the next full-length CD, even more!

Session - Pozole
- Isidro and I had a really successful session for The Fortieth Day tonight, followed by a great pozole and mole session. We recorded new material and we continued our discussion about plans for our radio show later this month. Tonight's session ran just over an hour, and we worked with a continuous "groove" that, at times, almost had a weird Krautrock thing happening. The recording sounds so full that it could almost stand alone, but that does not really fit the underlying recording and mixing

- I made Post Office runs last night and tonight, so paid mail-orders and eBay items that I have already acknowledged were mailed out. Thanks to everyone who supported the new releases right away!
