AoH - 4/9 - Recap + news

Thanks to all of our friends who came out to support us last night! What an amazing night to be a part of. Even with three competing metal shows - plus Robert Plant at The Auditorium Theater, where I would have been if not for this show - we had an excellent crowd at Subterranean. The club took great care of us, holding the doors until we completed a solid soundcheck, and - bless them - we had loaders last night, so the mountains of Emperor cabinets and Sunn heads, etc., made their way up the steep steps without us breaking our backs. Major thanks go to Indian and Bloodiest, for including us in their dual record release show, and for the ongoing support that folks in both bands have shown us. It is MUCH appreciated. Both bands sounded incredible last night... two very different interpretations of doom... one more warm and enveloping and one more cold and nihilistic... you guess which was which. Lots of people saw us for the first time last night and it was humbling to get such positive feedback from both "veterans" and "virgins"! Thanks to everyone who stopped me to offer such kind words. It was also really nice for me to revisit our earliest setlist. meaning playing "Overcome" and "Torch"... allowing me to just go for it, vocally, if and when I felt like it. Greg brought some truly haunting new guitar sounds to "Overcome," which sound amazing on the recording that I am listening to right now. So now... a break for sure in live shows during May... maybe something in June if things solidify... and big news... We are booked for mastering (FINALLY!) at the end of June with Bob Weston (of Shellac) at Chicago Mastering Service... He will cut out lacquers, which will then go on to plating and pressing, as quickly as is humanly possible...
