On Friday June 21st, there
was a party for "Open City"
at New York City's Whitney
Museum, with music provided
by contributors to the publication,
including groups such as
Pavement, Palace Brothers, and
Silver Jews. The organizers also
mixed in other favorites such as
the "Ghost Dog" soundtrack, the
Mamas and the Papas, and
Francoise Hardy. As Pieter has
already contributed to "Open
City," and I will have some
drawings published by them later
this year, they were kind enough
to include the BLOODYMINDED
track, "The Misbegotten Son,"
from "True Crime," in the
evening's soundtrack mix.
Special thanks go out to
Joanna and Jocko for distressing
the unsuspecting museum patrons!

Texas is still the reason...
Lift to Experience are a
band from Denton, Texas
that act as an uncanny
cross between Jon Wayne
(see their obscure 7" on
the mysterious Dental Records)
and Medicine, two groups
that are loosely related to
BloodLust! The band played
an extremely high volume
show at the Prodigal Son
(come for the grilled cheese
sandwiches, stay for the
band) on Friday night,
opening up with "a little
cover version that we have
been playing on this tour"
- namely "Kashmir." The band
is not at all precious, as their
Cocteau Twins connection
might suggest. The wall of
sound was aided by a battery
of old effect pedals, and a
guitar that ran through a
rotating Leslie cabinet. Nice!
The highest highs and the
lowest lows. AMAZING.
