BloodLust! is happy to announce the release of the Intrinsic Action "Five" CD. Recorded in Chicago in 1987 and 1988, “Five” was originally released as a C-60 cassette by AWB Recording (AWB 009; 1988). A second edition with revised cover artwork was released in 1992, after the band relocated to New York. Analogous to the group’s previous release, “Bad Jack,” “Five” is comprised of both live and studio material. The live tracks were recorded on May 7, 1988, when Intrinsic Action played a high-profile show in front of 900 people at Cabaret Metro – their third show there – opening for Swans, on that band’s “Children of God” tour. On the song “Male Payment,” Thomas Thorn – then of the groundbreaking rhythmic power-electronics band Slave State – contributes additional vocals. Thorn soon went on to perform with My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult (as Buck Ryder), before forming The Electric Hellfire Club.
The disc’s lengthy, primary studio track, the second installment of the Source Control (SCTL) series, was recorded in May 1987, and it is comprised of processed source material, influenced by the heavier soundscape-industrial music of the early- to mid-1980s. This archival release also features a bonus track that utilizes unreleased SCTL-related studio material from May 1988, edited and mastered specifically for this compact disc.
Scott Alzheimer and Brian Gaynor, who have both worked on several BloodLust! recording projects, engineered the ultramaximized master in June and July 2004, at Alien Soundscapes, Inc., Chicago. Jonathan Canady realized the graphic design work, incorporating the original cassette cover, while following the format that he established on the previous Intrinsic Action archival CD releases, "Sado-Electronics" (B!029/Vestige CD 7), “Bad Jack” (B!044/Vestige CD 5), and “II” (B!046/Vestige CD 3).
