Wow, another horribly attended show. We certainly did nothing to help, as far as bringing in bodies goes. Logan Square. Milwaukee Avenue. Close. Easy to get to. Out-of-town bands...

Vadim started the night off by slowly building up his sound to a point where the hellish noise actually fried out a speaker in one of the big house amps. Christ, let me tell you how nice the smoke coming out of the grill smelled - noxious! An auspicious start to the night?!? We thought that we were doomed, but somehow it turned out to be one of the best sounding shows that we have had in ages. Crisp sound with a solid balance of vocals, feedback, and synth. And fast. Blastocyst (actually from Brooklyn... Greenpoint!) were up next. They were a pretty-fast, noisy, and heavy bass and drums duo with dual screamy vocals. Part old school NYC noise-rock, part current noise (maybe think Lightning Bolt, but more "free" and less motorik). Intense stuff. Sharks with Wings - a trio - set up, with gear that made me think of Wolf Eyes a bit, although with a couple of real drum pieces. The sound could be a bit W.E., minus the synthetic rhythm thing, kind of like on the recent Hospital 2LP set. Slower, more-lurching stuff. Tapes, guitar, organ/keyboards, broken vocals, FX, etc. Definitely an East Coast varient on the Michigan thing. Very nice to learn about both bands. Nice guys - who still went for it, even if chicago lamed out on them...
