NYC

My trip to NYC this week went well. I was able to spend a lot of time with Messrs. Schoolwerth and Balistreri. On Tuesday night, the guys from Blacklist were spinning at Darkroom, and they played a great mix of coldwave, post-punk, death rock, etc. On Wednesday night, Column and Martial Canterel played at Midway Cafe and it was a great show. Martial Canterel sounded excellent! Sean creates his Roland Sh-101 sequences live, in the transitions between the songs, and they act as the most amazing segues. I also got to hang out with Rich (FFH) and Shane (Noizeguild) on Thursday night. I made it to the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday, along with some Chelsea galleries on Thursday. The Cameron (nee Marjorie Cameron Parsons Kimmel) show at Nicole Klagsbrun was really interesting to see. Fans of Kenneth Anger's work should take note, as this occult-influenced artist stars in the filmmaker's 1954-66 film, "Innauguration of the Pleasure Dome." Cameron's drawings are rather dark, ritual/spiritual/dream-based pieces, filled with somewhat obsessive mark-making. The Paulina Olowska show at Metro Pictures was also interesting. Her large "coldwave" paintings are filled with references to the Polish post-punk scene, etc.
