New York minimal-wave revivalist Martial Canterel often seems to want to make music that calls for an all-black wardrobe, but his cruel, punishing analog-synth stabs, splutters, and gyrations are actually as stark and white as Nordic pack ice. His dried-rose melodies hang in polygon windows that open onto a tundra thick with fog, and from beyond them comes his hollowed-out but romantic singing, like the voice of a lonely god who’s wandering aimlessly in the cold and pondering the melancholy fate of his creation. Canterel is on tour with DJ Pieter Schoolwerth, who’s helped bring plenty of spooky, alluringly angular music into the world as proprietor of Wierd Records. —Liz Armstrong
