Anatomy of Habit LP
This debut recording from Chicago's Anatomy of Habit has been in the works for a long time, and is finally here. Well worth the wait, too. I'm not quite sure what to call it, in terms of genre... ambient, minimalist doom? Sure, why not? Comparisons aren't coming easy, either... I'm hearing early Sonic Youth, Swans, and to round out the heaviness, a good bit of Bloody Panda. In any case, be assured that this is huge and very heavy. It may take some getting used to, as the album is composed of just two monstrous songs, which clock in at a total of about 34 minutes.Mark Solotroff's vocals are the centerpiece here, even if they're not meant to be (and I suspect they were not). There's something seething behind these vocals, something that really serves as the glue to the music. I'm not very good at describing this, so what I would encourage you to do is stream the songs, and then given that you'll really dig what you hear, buy the LP (which comes with a digital download).
