Status - 10-02

- Thanks to everyone who has already ordered from the October catalog! All paid orders were just dropped off at the Post Office

- The Sleep Museum "Home" CDs are in-house, in anticipation of next week's Martial Canterel/Hive Mind show. For those not yet aware, the $10.00 suggested admission cost also entitles the first 50 guests to a copy of "Home"

- I received the master for the forthcoming Locrian CD and production will start on that immediately. Jason Soliday did an excellent job on the mastering... it was worth the wait

October 1st - Three new releases on BloodLust!

BloodLust! New Release - Out Now:

Artist: Failing Lights
Title: "True Form"
Format: 7-inch
Catalog Number: BloodLust! 094
Genre: Noise / Experimental / Industrial

The nineteenth release in a series of private 7-inch singles

Pressed in an edition of 300 copies; White vinyl; White labels with minimal black text; Poly-lined inner sleeves; Unmarked white cardboard sleeves - sealed on three sides; Black and white insert; 45 RPM; Failing Lights is Mike Connelly of Wolf Eyes and Hair Police [etc., etc.]; If it seems like there have been a lot of synth releases on BloodLust! these days and forever, then this is Connelly showing you what he can do with dark, distorted, droned-out organ playing; In my head, at least, I understand why this record perfectly illustrates the collision - and probably the collusion - between the contrasting styles of sound generated by members of the Lexington, Kentucky and the greater Detroit, Michigan-area scenes; Somber and unsettling, "True Form" is as "true industrial" as can be; seemingly old, and to my ears, totally non-derivative.

BloodLust! New Release - Out Now:

Artist: Neil Jendon
Title: "Invisibility"
Format: CD in jewel box
Catalog Number: BloodLust! 117
Genre: Analog [Modular] Synth / Experimental / Industrial

Neil Jendon is a fixture in the Chicago music scene, who has shifted between roles as a psychedelically-driven guitarist in the indie/alternative band Catherine [TVT Records], a more experimentally-minded guitarist in the avant-garde group Zelienople, and as half of the group Abduction [with Michael Miley], through which I first witnessed Neil's vivid modular synthesizer playing. I originally came to know Neil in the early 1990's, and if I recall correctly, we bonded over the U.K. band, Loop. But maybe that was his band mate, Jerome? In any case, after losing touch with each other for a long measure of time, I have seen and heard much more of Neil's work in the last two years - and more recently - after seeing him destroy a small local venue with a live solo modular synth set - I knew that it was time to talk to him about a release for BloodLust! Neil's skill as an improviser may come into play on "Invisibility," but at the core of these recordings there is what seems to be a familiarity with the palette of early industrial music, be it Maurizio Bianchi, Lustmord, instrumental Throbbing Gristle [grittier than "After Cease to Exist," certainly], etc. Neil recently played an excellent set, opening up for Consumer Electronics, in Chicago, and it struck me how well his flavor of synth sits with other types of noise and experimental music, even if I know that on one hand, he comes from a more psychedelic, shoe-gazer-aware place. Now if I could only get around to seeing his post-Catherine, dream-pop band Buglette play live... Professionally duplicated CD, single panel, double-sided insert; color artwork; in jewel box with shrink-wrap.

Tracklisting:
1. "First Invisibility" (2:32)
2. "Second Invisibility" (18:38)
3. "Third invisibility" (5:28)
4. "Fourth Invisibility" (21:58)

BloodLust! New Release - Out Now:

Artist: Culver
Title: "Sugar Tip"
Format: CD in jewel box
Catalog Number: BloodLust! 121
Genre: Experimental / Psychedelic Noise / Industrial

Last winter, when BLOODYMINDED was preparing to go on tour in the U.K., I was put in contact with Lee Stokoe, who was touring at the same time as us, under the name Inseminoid, with George Proctor of Mutant Ape. Not only was Lee beyond accommodating about letting us piggyback on the Inseminoid/Fecalove tour, but he was kind enough to also drive us around the U.K. for several days. I returned to the States with a thick stack of Culver CDs, which took some time to get through. I was most pleased that I enjoyed the music on the CDs as much as I enjoyed meeting and spending time with Lee, himself. After hearing more and more Culver recordings, as well as a few excellent psychedelic/noise CDs by Stokoe's band Marzuraan, I was convinced that I needed to release something by him. "Sugar Tip" is that thing, packaged in handsome collage artwork created by Stokoe for this release. One of the main things that I have noticed about this CD is that it feels like the air gets sucked out of the room when I listen to it. While it is far denser and more complex a sound than Damion Romero's work, the two share the odd ability to move air around with sound in a fairly unsettling way. "Sugar Tip" is definitely heavier than drone, but it is definitely not simple harsh noise. I might refer to it as blackened psychedelic noise. Oh, and do not forget that this guy plays in Skullflower, these days, too. Professionally duplicated CD, single panel, double-sided insert; color collage artwork; in jewel box with shrink-wrap.

Tracklisting:
1. "Suicide Crypt" (21:40)
2. "I Know You're Alone" (2:10)
3. "Suicide Witch" (23:27)

Status - 09-29

- I am catching up on label/band stuff after being away for the last five-days

- The Sleep Museum "Home" test CD has arrived and I am evaluating the sound quality now. The packaging looks great!

- The Culver and Neil Jendon CDs are in-house and I will be getting copies to the artists, right away

- A lot of thought has been going into this whole color-vinyl "dilemma." I have found white vinyl at a few pressing plants, both in the USA and abroad, but any of those options would cause a severe cost increase for the forthcoming private series singles, which I am not convinced is appealing on any level, whatsoever. I am discussing options with Redrot and TDS OGF, to determine these artists' opinions on the subject

Status - 09-24

- I will be away until Sunday or Monday. I will be mailing outstanding orders today

- A test copy of the Sleep Museum "Home" CD (B1118) is on its way to me. I will evaluate it next week and, barring any problems, it will be manufactured in time for a November 1st release

- Mastering and design work on the Locrian "Rhetoric of Surfaces"CD (B!113) is wrapping up. It will not make it in time for the previously announced October 1st release date but it should be ready for November 1st

- The shipment of Failing Lights "True Form" singles should be here any day now, on schedule for an October 1st release

- The Neil Jendon (B!117) and the Culver (B!121) CDs are on a UPS truck, heading to my front door, at this very moment

- Isidro and I did some good The Fortieth Day work yesterday, for the first time in far too long - which included chocolate/hazelnut and banana gelato for me - and peach and mango gelato for him. Isidro prepared a set of interesting rhythm tracks that hearken back to the long-lost "Isolationism" period of the mid-1990s... weird... We are hoping to confirm a Día de los Muertos-related show, ASAP, which will likely be my last show of the year, under any band, name, etc...

- Animal Law, R.I.P.

No More White Vinyl?!?

I honestly fucking thought that this color vinyl shortage was bullshit. The last BloodLust! private series 7-inch singles - Prurient and Locrian - were pressed in January. I just got the Failing Lights single pressed this month, and they are on their way to me, now. So I guess that I missed over half a year of dwindling stock of color.

On Monday, I was preparing to send the Redrot master to the pressing plant and I found out they they are now out of white and nearly every other color. They must have just run out of white within the last week!

I have called every reputable pressing plant in the USA... and some less-than-reputable places. Only one even has white in stock, but they have a high minimum order for color vinyl --- not to mention that they have always seemed to be one of the most expensive manufacturers around.

Most of the plants are saying November, at the earliest, for when they HOPE to get new raw materials, but no guarantees.

Maybe this is the natural cutting-off point for the private series??? I was already working on something for a new Mauthausen Orchestra single -- closer to the ten older BloodLust! singles from the 1990s... printed fold-over sleeves, but with black vinyl.

Still, this seems like such a shitty way to have to end the series, prior to the Redrot, Twodeadsluts Onegoodfuck, and what I had hoped would be one final entry...

And it seems contradictory to all of this talk about the great vinyl resurgence... Best Buy stocking vinyl, etc...
