Zero Tolerance on Nightmares

Thanks again to Scott and Calum at Zero Tolerance, for writing and publishing the Nightmares article in the new issue, which just arrived at my P.O. box. There is a nice feature on Jonathan's artwork, too, not to mention pieces on Ramleh, Sewer Goddess, Voltigeurs, Streicher, Messiah Complex, etc.

From my train ride home, this afternoon... Pretty dark...

Speaking of Cassettes

There is an interesting article on contemporary cassette culture - which does not single out the noise scene in any way - along with a growing comments section - on Pop Matters

Death Musick Ritual - 12/6 - Mentions

From the Chicago Sun Times:

This weekend: Mile Long Records release party, and a busy night at the Bottle
By Jim DeRogatis
December 2, 2009

Anyone starting a new independent record label these days has to be driven by passion, because the business prospects are anything but promising. Chicagoan Michael Paeth clearly is a fan and a believer, and he's celebrating a new compilation, "Analog Highway," trumpeting the Americana, roots- and garage-rock artists on his Mile Long Records label (http://www.milelongrecords.com) with a record release show Saturday, Dec. 5, at 9 p.m. at Martyr's, 3855 N. Lincoln. The performers include Dive Bar, Penthouse Sweets, Twilight Revival, Scattergun, Nashville Wreckers, Medicine Hat and Sawbuck, and the cover is $8. More information can be found at http://www.martyrslive.com, (773) 404-9494.

It's a busy evening Sunday, Dec. 6, at the Empty Bottle, 1035 N. Western, starting with a free screening at 7 p.m. of "Wesley Willis's Joyrides," a new documentary by Chris Bagley and Kim Shively "celebrating the life and phenomenon of the legendary Wesley Willis, cult rock-and-roll icon." Then, starting at 9, the club hosts a strong triple bill with a $3 cover (a buck a band!) featuring Magical Beautiful, Above/Below Sea Level and Implodes. Finally, beginning at 11, DJs Bruce Lamont and Mark Solotroff spin what they're billing as a "Death Musick Ritual" (admission is free). For more info, call (773) 276-3600 or visit http://www.emptybottle.com.

From Time Out Chicago:

Arty pop deconstructionists Magical Beautiful work through washy dub spotlighting the glowing trombone work of Nick Broste. Opening is Implodes, the psychedelic drone outfit headed up by Matt Jencik. Stick around after the show for Death Musick Ritual, a free DJ set of dark sounds from Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Led Zeppelin 2, Bloodiest) and Mark Solotroff (BLOODYMINDED).

- Big Post Office run last night, to catch up with the long holiday weekend's mail. All paid orders received by mid-day yesterday were sent out. Thanks!

- Dear mother of god... When the Maestro is in from Milan, you know that a trip to Kuma's is happening, but things have been so busy lately and the calendar page just turned over yesterday, so none of us walked in last night expecting this:

EYEHATEGOD - "It's a ten ounce beef patty topped with a savory pecan crumble, bacon wrapped, bleu cheese stuffed dates, and finished off with Dusseldorf mustard." Sorry for the crappy BlackBerry snapshot... Anyhow, it was ridiculously good. And thanks to Luke for looking out for us!

AoH Last Night

Thanks to everyone who came out to see Anatomy of Habit last night! It was great to see so many friends there... Milano, represent!!! Things felt really good onstage and we were all really pleased that Alison (Helen Money) asked us to join her for her homecoming and record release show. 300+ people at a bar watching doom-laden cello music on a chilly Monday night. Pretty crazy, huh? Thanks to everyone at the Empty Bottle, as always, for taking such good care of us! I just played the MiniDisc recording, which came out well. Tonight at practice we are determined to nail down our new song, "After The Water," so that we can start playing it live, ASAP. Expect a bit of a surprise...

Here are the details on our next show, which is creeping up quickly (as opposed to "It's creeping up slowly, That last fatal hour"):
