Thanks to Jason Coffman, for asking us to play on this bill. It was one of the best mixes of bands that we have been a part of in ages. Thanks to Mikey, for hosting it at the Nite Cap. Thanks to Steve, for doing sound. Thanks to our friends, for making the jaunt up there. Thanks to Nicole from Rococo, for her exciting vinyl find... the Q. Lazzarus track is playing as I type this.

Unfortunately, Locrian started things off before a lot of those people who did actually show up had arrived. They sounded great. Fans of Double Leopards (+ side projects), Growing, etc., would definitely like their keyboard/guitar/vocal/feedback soundscapes, but as things start to zone out, the guitarist gets into some intricate, upfront handiwork, which definitely sets them apart from other drone-based artists. Nick and Rand from Carpet of Sexy rolled in just as it was their turn to play, and they brought in a good measure of energy with them. Hard, spazzed-out beats, dual scream-screech vocals, lots of jumping around and crashing into each other, and Rand in his undies. Yes. For this show, Wilt was just James (best wishes to Dan!), so the set was more along dark and creepy electronic/ambient lines, but just when you thought it was safe, James kicked up the noise, let out a quick vocal outburst, and then ended things abruptly. After a slowish start, we knocked out what felt to be a solid set. The sound mix had a nice balance of vocals, feedback, and synths... better than what I was expecting. Isidro belted out intense vocals on the last song, as he did at No Fun Fest, so that was a bonus. And he was in leather! Next up was Plague Bringer, and they stepped up to their vast array of amps and proceeded to tear the place apart. It has been over a year since I last saw them live, and their sound is even more complex/varied than before. Grindcore elements, death-metal parts, crystal-clear, blasting drum machine, still-sick vocals, and these - dare I call them "groove" sections - where the guitar has a chance to stop you in your tracks for a moment, before the assault continues. Excellent! I hope that we can play with them again soon. Anaphylaxis skillfully brought us back to where we started, instilling a level of calm - and even humor - with their mixture of analog synth, theramin and other gadgets (?) - and quite unexpected hip-hop samples! Okay, the State Property T-shirt makes more sense now.

A calming meal at El Presidente was unfortunately interrupted by a call from the my alarm company, but luckily it was only "the wind." Time to gear-up for Saturday's extravaganza...
