"L
ast year, Terrorizer published their list of the top 20 Sludge Albums. Not surprisingly, slots numbers one and two both went to Eyehategod albums (Take As Needed For Pain and Dopesick, respectively). As their titles suggest, both of those modern metal classics are half-sunk in a druggy swampland, as monolithically narcotic as they extreme, and a hundred times more harrowing than standard-issue doom "brutality." But as with all things from NOLA, the past few years have been rough: (now kicked) habits, side projects, and internal disputes have meant just one full-length and only intermittent touring since 1996. So their return to the Chicago stage alone is worth cheering for. Local black-metal darlings Nachtmystium open both weekend shows."
