SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS PLAYS THE SODALITY - ROMAN GOLD
It’s 2013 and, 25 years since the release of Beyond Unknown Pleasures, The Sodality is finally ready to manifest itself on a stage.... Andrea Cernotto is now directing and masterminding a new incarnation, where Mark Solotroff is taking care of vocals, in front of the original backing of electronic maelstrom by Eraldo Bernocchi and Paolo L. Bandera... in a gesture of Grand Guignol theatrics, the selected event is the Destination Morgue festival, at the Closer club in Roma... the actual performance takes place on January 4, 2014 and is a beautiful showcase of noise orchestration and extreme narrative... as usual, the festival is accompanied by a compilation, which includes also a brand new track, with SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS (“SRS”, i.e. Paolo) re-configuring the current Sodality state of mind, using special vocal contributions by Andrea, Mark and Eraldo.
Fast forward to 2020 and its Spring lockdown... in the expanded time dimension of this very peculiar period, the 2013 studio material and the 2014 (partial) live recordings take an entirely new meaning, calling for a broader perspective in order to really get as deep and as high as possible... with the full blessing of Andrea, Eraldo and Mark , SRS / Paolo immerses himself in the historical material and, besides enhancing the live sonics and re-opening the 2013 vocals, creates also new “mixes” of some of the 80’s and 90’s original Sodality blasts.
The end result is “SSHE RETINA STIMULANTS PLAYS THE SODALITY - ROMAN GOLD”, a contemporary and individual point of view of a truly collaborative history of excess and passion ... a 2021 angle for some unique moments from the past.
