October 24, 2026 Update

Thanks to everyone who supported the new Anatomy of Habit album this summer! We had a fun release event with Twelve Ten Gallery and we received a lot of very positive reviews of the album. Many of those have been archived on our website. Two new video interviews are linked below.

Anatomy of Habit

Formed in Chicago in 2008, ANATOMY OF HABIT has been described as a hybrid of doom metal, post-punk, death-rock, early-industrial, psychedelic, and shoegaze. Although they’ve experienced significant membership changes since forming, today’s band, which includes Alex Latus (guitar), Isidro Reyes (metal percussion), Skyler Rowe (drums), Mark Solotroff (vocals), and Sam Wagster (bass + lap steel), represents their longest-standing and most prolific lineup. The band credits their treasured chemistry to their intertwining histories as friends and collaborators. Rowe and Latus have made music together since they were teenagers, growing up in Indianapolis’ heavy music scene, while playing in the band Still. Rowe and Wagster create sweeping, pastoral instrumental music together in Mute Duo. Reyes and Solotroff are old friends who’ve played together for many years and they continue to record and perform in both BLOODYMINDED and The Fortieth Day. This deep connective tissue contributes to what the band describes as consistently effortless writing sessions and innately unified live performances.

BLOODYMINDED

BLOODYMINDED is a heavy electronic band, formed in New York, in 1995, after the dissolution of the pioneering American post- industrial noise group Intrinsic Action, founded by Mark Solotroff in Chicago, in 1984. BLOODYMINDED’s live shows are exceptionally energetic and are characterized by physical engagement, layers of abrasive analog synthesizer, aggressive vocals, and abundant feedback.

Recording work is back on and we're testing some mixes of the ten in-progress tracks. We have more synth to add and then we'll wrap it up with vocal sessions.

Mark Solotroff "A Diagnosis Of Distance"
https://marksolotroff.bandcamp.com/album/a-diagnosis-of-distance

My new solo album, A Diagnosis Of Distance, will be released on November 20th. Preorders are live on Bandcamp, and the first track, "Dense Anchorage," is streaming.

A Diagnosis Of Distance treats separation — from places, from people, from earlier iterations of the self — as a condition to be mapped and analyzed rather than a narrative to be resolved. Operating across drone, dark ambient, synth noise, tape music, and post-industrial soundscapes, it was built from analog synthesizer, keyboard, drum machine, cassette manipulation, and source recordings gathered across Chicago, Berlin, Mexico City, and Cuernavaca. Rather than offering nostalgia or catharsis, it operates as an act of deliberate, quiet measurement — tracking distance through its artifacts until the isolation itself becomes the primary subject.

While deeply personal, this wasn't a strictly solitary project. I’m grateful to my friends and collaborators — Isidro Reyes, JR Robinson, and Josh Strachan — for weaving their distinct sounds into the album’s bleak framework, and to Collin Jordan for mastering the record with a careful sense of space and dimension. Thanks also to Liz at EarsplitPR for helping me spread the word!

"Dense Anchorage" is as the lead single and entry point to the record. I’m solo on this track, layering drones, whirls, and static alongside a repeating keyboard figure, built around source elements captured across three cities.

1. Dense Anchorage
2. The Geometry of Separation (Feat. JR Robinson)
3. Phantom Tenant
4. Signals of a Former Self (Feat. Joshua Strachan)
5. This Absent Room (Feat. Isidro Reyes)

The Sodality

Originally created in 1984 by Andrea Cernotto and Pierpaolo Zoppo, The Sodality bloomed under Andrea‘s guidance across seminal works in the 80's and 90's. The project was revived by original members Paolo Bandera and Eraldo Bernocchi for a 2014 concert in Rome, with Mark Solotroff on vocals, and again in 2023, for a live show in Dresden, and new recordings with that line-up, along with founding member Andrea Cernotto.

Our new single, "Fifth" has been mixed and mastered and is currently in the design phase. Stay tuned...

Surgical Stainless Steel

Surgical Stainless Steel was intended to be an offshoot of Intrinsic Action that combined power-electronics with the early grindcore and industrial-metal scenes at the fringes of labels like Earache and Peaceville. After one live performance that followed an Intrinsic Action set, the idea went dark until it was eventually resurrected as a solo power-electronics moniker for Mark Solotroff. Only a few recordings ever surfaced, on AWB Recording, Self Abuse Records, and Slaughter Productions.

I never expected to record new Surgical Stainless Steel tracks after a 30 year gap, but a request came in and I recorded two new tracks this year. I'll share more details when I'm able.

Since I've been working on new music, I decided to make some SSS merch, based on the screen-printed covers of the Murder Series 7-Inch on Self Abuse.
