Chicagoist update on Anatomy of Habit
Thanks to Jon Graef at Chicagoist for continuing to keep his eyes and ears on us!
From: Chicagoist's Best Local Bands To Watch In 2013
An amalgam of expert provocateurs and workman from decades of Chicago underground rock and metal music, Anatomy of Habit’s music simply defies categorization. But we tried to describe it recently, saying “this is a group that knows how to hold listener attention … lulling [listeners] into gothic ambiance one minute, and then snapping them out of it with whiplash-inducing fury on loan from metal and hardcore the next…” The band just released a compendium CD of the group’s previously released EP and LP. They’ve just finished up recording album number two, which saw Tortoise’s John McEntire playing the drums. Peruse their Bandcamp to hear for yourself, but give yourself plenty of time. Average song length is about 10 minutes. - Jon Graef

The Chicagoist on AoH
Really kind words about Anatomy of Habit from Jon Graef at The Chicagoist:
One of Chicago's most singular, distinctive bands is post-everything act Anatomy of Habit, who concoct a delectable sonic witches' brew comprised of doom metal, shoegazer, goth, industrial, ambient, and hardcore. Last year's self-titled debut -- two tracks, 34 minutes -- caused a great deal of excitement for its serpentine, terrifying mood pieces. They'll be back with a new 12-inch EP, titled After The Water/Then Window, which, according to the Bloodlust newsletter sent out last week, has been sent to the pressing plant. (Bloodlust is the label of Habit/Bloodyminded mainman Mark Solotroff). Any word of a release date, and we pass it on to you. Anatomy of Habit play with Chord and Jon Mueller at The Hideout on Saturday, May 12. Pencil this show in, because it will no doubt be a memorable show.

Chicagoist on AoH
The Chicagoist just posted a really nice piece on Anatomy of Habit as a preview for our show on Sunday with Iceage:

A few months ago, at the double record release party for Chicago metal bands Bloodiest and Indian, we saw an opening band who truly defied categorization, Anatomy of Habit. They have a show opening up for Iceage at the Empty Bottle this Sunday, and here's why you should catch Anatomy before the Pitchfork-approved Danish buzz band.

Anatomy Of Habit Defies Categorization
First and foremost, Anatomy of Habit features an impressive pedigree of local talent from a wide variety of past bands. Ex-members of Radar Eyes, Cheer Accident, Animal Law, and current members of Bloodyminded and Plague Bringer, all play in this band. But even if those names don't mean anything to you, Anatomy of Habit's intoxicating, challenging mix of mood-based musical forms will. The songs are long, complex, and utterly unforgettable.
The average song-length may be 10 minutes or so, but this is a group that knows how to hold listener attention, doing so by lulling them into gothic ambiance one minute, and then snapping them out of it with whiplash-inducing fury on loan from metal and hardcore the next. Habit's Bandcamp and Facebook say an album is on the way. Get excited. Listen to live demos here, then see this band.
Anatomy of Habit opens for Iceage on August 7 at Empty Bottle, 1035 N Western, 9:30 p.m., $10, 21+
