Over the past two years The Fortieth Day has released numerous cassette releases and Diophantine Discs is proud to issue their first LP. "Syria: 630 AD" consists of two 17+ minute compositions of extremely dense, powerful, and brooding tracks tracks, with some absolutely monstrous bass. Comprised of Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded, Intrinsic Action, and the BloodLust! label) and Isidro Reyes (Bloodyminded), Chicago's The Fortieth Day creates a unique music that is dense and murky, lurking somewhere between the realms of noise, industrial, and ambient. Various recording sessions are processed, re-processed, and mixed together to create the final studio recordings. Live shows also incorporate live real-time video projections by Noise Crush. Previous works include a collaborative cassette with Sshe Retina Stimulants and releases on BloodLust!, ORCO, and Cipher.
Pressed on white vinyl and housed in a silver-printed and laser-cut [die-cut] sleeve. Limited to 300 copies.

Appearances by this intense Chicago band are few and far between—this is only the second this year. They're a spin-off of brilliant and terrifying electronic-industrial group Bloodyminded, and began as a duo of two of its members, Mark Solotroff (guitar) and Isidro Reyes (bass and programming); they've since been joined by a third, Milwaukee noise artist James Moy (synth). Where Bloodyminded is a force of nature, with all the depth and complexity that implies, the Fortieth Day is more like a surgical procedure, with a stripped-down and relatively chilly hypnotic-drone aesthetic. Historical seminarratives are the band's stock in trade: previous releases on their Bandcamp page include Pelusium: 540 AD and Syria: 638 AD. Their latest is Tenochtitlan: 1520 AD, a subject that Solotroff told me will be woven into the show's Day of the Dead theme. Listening for the first time to the potential master for the next release by The Fortieth Day, which Isidro handed to me last night, and which he mixed and edited from a mass of recording sessions made at Superior St.: "Tenochtitlan: 1520 AD." A new direction, maybe? Shorter tracks, for sure. Now if only we had had a bit more time before the Dia de los Muertos show...
